Description
Zero Separation Ltd is an independent games developer based near London, England.History
Company FormationZero Separation Ltd was formed as an independent games developer, driven by the desire to do something new and to be working to make their own dreams a reality, not other peoples'.
Embracing Open SourceIn order to provide the quality and professionalism they desired with the budget available Zero Separation evaluated a wide range of open source software and frameworks. In the end they settled on Open Office, and NetBeans for office and development software and MySQL, RedDwarf Server and phpBB as the game and infrastructure frameworks.
HeroDex - the first stepsHeroDex is the first game from Zero Separation Ltd. It is a Trading Card MMOG featuring Solo play versus computer opponents along with both competitive and co-operative play against or alongside other players. This brand new Trading Card Game offers quick-paced matches that can be completed in only a few minutes. The gameplay and the unique feats-based advancement and deck building system will keep people coming back for more. During the first stages of development the gameplay design was refined, and the server and a 2-dimensional client were developed and tested.
HeroDex - the next dimensionBy February 2012 it was clear that while the 2-dimensional client was nearly ready to use it did not provide the user experience Zero Separation desired. The client was not polished enough and felt clumsy and dated. In addition the power and display quality of mobile devices has increased exponentially and many more options were now available. The decision was taken to delay release by eight months in order to rewrite the client into a 3-dimensional form using the latest technology. Again open source projects were evaluated and in the end JME3 was chosen as the basis for the new client. The existing framework and artwork could in many cases be re-used but it has still been a mammoth effort - however the results have been worth it in the form of a much more slick, engaging and immersive playing experience.
